Support indigent pupils, Ayade tells wealthy Nigerians
The senator representing Cross River North in the National Assembly, Prof. Ben Ayade, has called for the provision of scholarship to indigent pupils.
Such a gesture, he said, would not only help to ensure the beneficiaries’ proper development but also the country.
The lawmaker, therefore, urged privileged Nigerians to assist the needy by sponsoring their education.
The senator, who stated this after paying the Senior School Certificate Examination fees for 300 pupils from the district, also noted that there was the need to give priority to education in the country.
The senator, who spoke through one of his aides, Dr. Stephen Odey, said his decision to sponsor the initiative followed the importance he attached to education.
He added, “My compassion for the less- privileged in our society accounts for the regular award of scholarship and educational assistance and this should be emulated by privileged Nigerians.”
The senator also urged private and public schools in the district to present their two best pupils for an external examination that he would sponsor.
