Please Allow Ayade Develop C’River, Nigerians tell Foreign NGOs Opposed to Superhighway
Some Nigerians have taken to the social media to express their support for the 260km superhighway being undertaken by the Cross River State Government.
They were reacting to a report that several international Non-Governmental Organizations have petitioned the Federal Ministry of Environment over the project.
An online reader who goes by the name Trib3man simply said: “Please allow Ayade develop Cross River, please!”
Another online reader of the Punch Newspaper, Guttano said the attitude of these foreign NGO’s and their local collaborators was condemnable.
“This is indeed a sad and tragic development. Nigerians cry of underdevelopment and an absence of critical infrastructure, but here are people whose government has painfully invested $ billions in this superhighway project protesting that their ancestral lands and wildlife conservation will be affected. It is simply tragic and delusional to wallow in this kind of inane thoughts in a 21st century.”
Another reader, I dey laaf, just cannot understand what the whole fuss is about.
According to him, “You cannot eat your cake and have it. If protest against such a gigantic project is coming from the impoverished people of Ekuri in Cross River, then it is sad. Does it (Project) not benefit the people more than the dormant forest habouring chimpanzees and monkeys? Would the people prefer to remain local hunters and peasants than the real developments associated with a 260km road project?”
“Kai, this is how development eludes some communities O…,” another reader, Dejandon said, adding that “It is a case of would you prefer to eat your egg raw or you want the later.”
“My brother, it is all politics. Nigeria is a very wicked country,” another reader, pato concluded.
