Osinbajo commissions Garment factory, monorail in Calabar

The Acting president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Thursday, commissioned the ultra-modern garment factory as well as the first monorail in sub Saharan Africa in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

Osinbajo, who was on an official visit to the state, also performed the groundbreaking for the Ayade industrial park which houses the Calabar Rice City and the Calabar Pharmaceutical Company amongst others.
Performing the groundbreaking for the industrial park, the acting president said: “This ceremony is special as it tells what the future holds for the state. The governor clearly has defined this state as one that will be a major industrial hub in Africa, this is the beginning of that vision and I am extremely honoured to be here to perform the groundbreaking ceremony.”

He described the projects commissioned as well as the groundbreaking performed as not only creative but forward looking, pointing out that Ayade has proved himself to be a great achiever.

Osinbajo also said of Ayade: “I want to commend you for the great work you are doing and more importantly for inspiring a whole generation of young people,” adding that “many people want to hear you speak, many want to share your ideas, I am not surprised that they call you digital governor.”

The acting president who, on arrival, after the airport reception, drove straight to the palace of the Obong of Calabar to address the people affirmed that “for those projects that the governor intends to do, the deep seaport, the superhighway, in whatever way that we can support these efforts, surely we will support because every part of this country is crucial to us.”

Continuing, Osinbajo stressed the need for the people to remain united irrespective of ethnic and tribal differences, intimating that “we must be prepared to engage with every ethnic group for even God wants us to be united.”

The Acting President was later conferred with the title of Ada Idaha Ke Efik Eburutu by the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V.

Cross River governor, Prof Ben Ayade, welcoming the acting president, described him as a humble and Godfearing man who has demonstrated his love for the unity of Nigerians, rather than party interest.

The governor said: “Let me also welcome our acting president, a man ordained by God at this point in time to stand for our President at this challenging time. A man who also has the feeling, love and spirit for the people.”
