New Year Message: Cross River To Push For Concession Of Calabar-Itu Road, Find Oil/Gas Says Ayade

gov ben ayadeThe Cross River government amongst other things has as its agenda for 2016, the push to concession the Calabar-Itu federal highway with finding oil and gas deposits in the state, says the governor, Benedict Ayade.

Ayade also says there is need for Cross Riverians to believe their potentials in order to turn the state into an Eldorado of prosperity.

These were contained in his new year message to Cross Riverians where he expressed gratitude to the people and described them as “brave, civilized with a warm panache” also adding “we were not unaware of the huge responsibility, skepticism and downright criticism” when he disclosed plans to embark on the signature projects.

Lamenting the dwindling revenue accruing to the state from the federal coffers due to the global slide in oil prices, he tasked Cross Riverians to see the new year as “another unique opportunity to open up a new chapter filled with captivating elixir of hope” even as he hope that “in the days ahead, we will catalyse the tempo of multi sectoral turnaround of our dear state”.

He highlighted the year’s agenda to include;

1. The commissioning of the Calabar Garment Factory,

2. Commissioning of the Calabar monorail,

3. Activation of the Green Police,

4. Completion of the de bushing of the superhighway corridor,

5. Completion of the detailed design and securing approval for the deep seaport construction from the Federal Executive Council,

6. Commencement of the dredging of the seaport,

7. Completion of the detailed design and preconstruction work of Calas Vegas and other two new cities, one in each senatorial district,

8. Construction of 5000 housing units for the no-income and low income earners,

9. Reconstruction of the Health and Education system,

10. Establishment of the state microfinance bank to provide soft loans for teeming youths,

11. Substantially stabilizing power and water supply in Calabar,

12. Push to obtain the concession of the Calabar-Itu federal road,

13. Creation of new urban forests for climate change and

14. Finding oil and gas deposits in our land.

He averred that Cross Riverians will be consulted to build any other “priority project of critical importance”, adding that “as we raise a toast to the new year with a sparkling in our eyes and the jigida dance of hope and triumph, may the dreams we will all come through and the days abound with richness and contentment.”
