Christmas: Ayade calls for introspection, moderate celebration
Cross River State Governor, Sir Ben Ayade has described Christmas as a season of introspection and has, therefore, called on Christians to celebrate moderately while they reflect on the birth and virtues of Jesus Christ.
In a Christmas message signed by his Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Linus Obogo, Ayade stated that “Christ is a symbol and personification of humility, peace, selflessness and sacrifice.”
He added that the birth of the Saviour, Jesus Christ heralded a refreshing dawn to mankind.
“Christmas is not a day for merriment alone, it should also serve as a day for introspection, especially for Christians, as it is the day that comes with so many lessons.
“He was born in a manger, a place no one would choose to be born, yet He is God and Saviour. Christmas reminds us that humility and selflessness are the hallmarks of leadership, as exhibited by Christ Himself. This is a lesson for all of us.
“Christ’s humility, simplicity and selflessness should be imbibed by Nigerians, especially the political class,” the statement quoted Governor Ayade as saying.
Continuing, the governor said: “This season readily reminds us of our duties as political leaders and leaders in all strata of human endeavours to show salutary examples in all we do.”
While wishing the Christian faithful peace and joy as they celebrate the Yuletide, Ayade reminded that “you must do so, bearing in mind that COVID-19 is still very much with us, especially with the discovery of a new variant, Omicron.”
He urged Nigerians not to be dispirited by the myriad of challenges facing the country but to be steadfast and optimistic that Nigeria will overcome them and emerge even much stronger.
