Ayade Signs Homeland Safety and Security Bill, 8 Others into Law

The Cross River State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade made history today, when he signed 9 bills into law including the Homeland Safety and Security bill, the first of its kind in Nigeria, making him the first Governor to sign 9 bills into law in a single day. This brings it to a total of 23 bills signed by the current administration in a little over 12 months.
The bills include 1. Cross River State Revenue Administration amendment bill 2. The Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Bill, 3. The Homeland Safety and Security bill, 4. Environment and Carbon Emissions bill, 4. Equal Opportunity and gender based discrimination bill, 5. Greater Calabar Development Agency bill, 6.The Cross River State University of Technology amendment bill 7. Harmonized levies bill 8. Road Infrastructure and development bill and 9. Cross River State Revenue Administration amendment bill
While presenting the bills to the governor. The Speaker, Hon. John Gaul Lebo reaffirmed that the House of Assembly being an architect of Legislative instruments will continue to create a framework for this administration’s objectives.
Lebo noted that, the 23 bills signed so far, “reflects 23 issues that were raised as part of the 100 issues raised in the legislative direction of the house at its inception”, The bills were divided into two major parts, 4 social services bills and 5 revenue bills. He disclosed that the house aims to send for assent, 100 bills at the end of the 8th assembly.
Signing the bills into law, Governor Ayade lauded the efforts of the assembly and charged them to do more as “The reward for hard work is more work”
In a bid to challenge and motivate other legislators, Gov. Ayade singled out for special praise, the legislator who sponsored the Homeland Safety and Security Agency bill, Honorable Eteng Jones and gave him a cash reward of 1million Naira.
Present at the signing ceremony were, the member representing Obubra/Etung constituency in the federal house of representatives, Mike Etaba, Members of the State Executive Council, Assembly members and several other top government functionaries.
