All Set for Commissioning of Calabar Monorail by Buhari – Ayade
Cross River State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade says the state is ready for the commisioning of the Calabar monorail by President Muhammadu Buhari.
This will be the second time the President is visiting the state after his earlier visit last year to flag off the construction of the state’s superhighway and deep seaport.
The President is expected to commission the first monorail in sub-Sahara Africa while his wife, Hajia Aisha Buhari will commission the Cross River Garment Factory to mark Ayade’s first year in office.
Speaking moments after another test ride in the monorail, Ayade said taking another ride in the monorail was his own way of checking to ensure that the project is ready for commissioning.
“As you are aware, the President and Commander-in Chief, Muhammadu Buhari, is visiting the state soon to commission this project, so, it is our responsibility to ensure that the facility is exposed to extreme pressure to ascertain its durability and safety before he takes a ride.
“That is why I have taken it upon myself to be the first experimental animal to be exposed to the risk and challenges and I can proudly say that I find it interestingly rewarding and exciting riding in the monorail.”
On whether the monorail will be fully ready to accommodate the huge crowd that will flood the state soon, the Governor said: “Seeing the commitment the contractor has shown so far, in fact he had to fly in some expatriates who are currently conducting final test and they are working day and night to ensure that everyone visiting will not only have a smooth ride on the rail but a memorable experience.”
Continuing Ayade said: “We are fully set, and from what I can see, the operation is fine and very smooth but it will be more breathtaking when the President and his wife will official take a ride on this monorail after the commissioning.
“But truly, let me confess that Africa has come of age and I am glad that it is starting here in Cross River State, the Nation’s Paradise and most preferred destination in Nigeria.”
Also speaking, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. John Gaul Lebor described his experience as awesome and breathtaking.
“The commissioning of this landmark project goes to tell the world that the governor has good sense of history and direction which indicates good governance in the state.
“When the governor said he wants to reconstruct the economy of the state and decouple it from federal allocation and be self-reliance, he was not mincing words, it is now clear that we are gradually achieving that feat and soon, we shall see the manifestation of economic boom through his signature projects across the state.”
